The NIOA Newsletter - October Edition

Greetings, friends of the NIOA!

October NIOA Meeting - Please plan on joining us for training in Fort Wayne on October 9th. We will start with a tour of the Midwest WWTP facility at 10:30am, then will go to the Aqua Indiana office for lunch and a presentation. Please RSVP no later than 4pm, Monday October 7th.

NIOA Board Elections - Board elections are coming soon! We are currently taking nominations for the NIOA Board. If you are interested in serving, please contact John, Katie or Mike!

Environmental Rules Board Petition - A number of Indiana Communities are petitioning the Indiana Environmental Rules Board to direct IDEM to adopt an Indiana-appropriate version of the 2012 EPA Recreational Water Quality Criteria. Adoption of this criteria will help provide regulatory certainty to over 100 Combined Sewer Overflow Communities that once they meet the required level of CSO control, future investments in wastewater infrastructure will not be wasted on massively expensive projects with no environmental benefit. A petition will be available at the AIM/AWWA/IWEA Joint conference and at the October NIOA Meeting for anyone interested in signing. You can learn more about this issue here. If you would like a blank copy of the petition to circulate around your community, please contact Craig Williams.

IWEA Annual Conference Follow-up - Hopefully each of you had the opportunity to come to the Annual Conference in Ft. Wayne this year. For those attending for continuing education hours, IWEA staff are working on finalizing CEU reports. You should see a preliminary report in your email soon. IWEA is asking that you review the preliminary report and contact them if you see any errors. After October 11th, the attendance reports will be finalized and sent to IDEM.

AIM/AWWA/IWEA Joint Conference - The first ever collaborative event will be held in Zionsville on October 8. This event will cover a number of topics that are relevant to water and wastewater professionals, as well as elected leaders. This event was just announced and the registration deadline is tight - you must register no later than October 1st. Registration can be completed on the AIM website.
