The NIOA Newsletter - November 2018 Edition

2018 Election Results:

  • Congratulations to John Magsam, who will serve the next 3 years as an officer of the NIOA;
  • Craig Williams, was elected to serve as the NIOA Representative on the IWEA Board;
  • Mike Franke has agreed to stay on as an NIOA officer for another year; please make sure you express your gratitude to Mike when you see him. 

Updates from IDEM/IFA-SRF:

  • The Office of Water Quality is reaching out the Great Lakes Basin CSO Communities to inform you that the 2nd Notice of Rulemaking for the implementation of the Great Lakes Basin CSO Public Notification (PN) is open for review and comment. The public notice period lasts from October 31, 2018 through November 30, 2018. A preliminary adoption hearing is scheduled for February 13, 2019. Directions on submission of comments can be found within the notices. The second notice of comment period with the draft rule is posted at http://www.in.gov/legislative/iac/20181031-IR-327180271SNA.xml.pdf.   • Communities seeking new SRF Loans or seeking permitting for new or increased capacity Water/Wastewater facilities will be required to develop and implement an asset management program. The asset management development and implementation can be completed during as part of the project. IFA-SRF is reporting that grants are available to help develop and implement these programs on a first come-first served basis. Contact you SRF representative for more information. 
  • IDEM has started a workgroup to work on the Operator Certification Rule. If you are interested in being involved with this work group, or would like additional information, please contact Rick Littleton, Nara Manor or Brady Dryer. The work group has met a couple times and are working to update the rule in a number of areas:
    • Better allow reciprocity for individuals who have out-of-state licenses;
    • Add definitions/descriptions of industrial wastewater classifications;
    • Add language describing the conditions that a wastewater treatment plant can be reclassified;
    • Update the conditions of and application to take the wastewater operator certification exam;
    • Clarify the duties and responsibilities of the Operator in Responsible Charge of a facility;
    • Update the rule to reflect triennial renewal of Wastewater Licensing (from biennial requirements previously).

NIOA/IWEA Training Opportunities:

  • November Training, Nov. 14th - Starts @ 10:15a at the Angola Wastewater Treatment Plant, 1095 Redding Rd, for a tour of the facility. After the tour, we will regroup at the Angola Training Facility, 306 W. Mill St.at 11:45 for lunch, provided by Jones & Henry Engineers, followed by training. Anticipate 2.5 - 3 hours of technical training. RSVP no later than noon Nov. 12th so that we can get a head count for lunch!
  • 2018 IWEA Annual Business Meeting, Training & Lunch - Nov. 30th at Bowen Engineering in Indianapolis: registration starts at 9am. Please join us for our year-end presentation with IWEA where we’ll offer updates on two important topics that affect members across the state as well as the opportunity to participate in our annual meeting to elect officers to our 2019 board of directors. Anticipate 2.5 contact hours. Lunch will be provided as well. Registration is required by November 23rd - please contact IWEA for more information or to register. 
  • December Training - Mark your calendars for the annual Christmas luncheon and training in Nappanee on December 12th. Listen up - Register for lunch & pay your 2019 dues prior to or at the December meeting and lunch is free!!! If your employer needs an itemized invoice to pay for the 2019 dues, please contact Mike
