The NIOA Newsletter - June 2021 Edition
Dear Friends of the NIOA!
We have been trying to get regular training started back up, but are struggling with finding facilities willing/able to accommodate us. If are interested in hosting, please contact your NIOA Officers, John Magsam, Tim Woodard and/or Katie Hernandez.
We are planning on starting things back up on July 21st (yeah, the normal NIOA schedule would be on July 14 - more on that below) with our annual cookout. - July 21 - Potato Creek State Park, Cookout & Training
- August 25-27 - IWEA Annual Conference, Fort Wayne Grand Wayne Center
- September 8 - Potty Shack Golf Outing (Location TBA)
- October 13 - Training & Plant Tour (Location TBA)
- November 10 - Training & Plant Tour (Location TBA)

IWEA Wastewater Challenge. Round up your team for IWEA’s Annual Wastewater Challenge coming up July 14th at Columbus City Utilities and get a chance to compete at Nationals in Chicago, IL! IWEA’s Annual Wastewater Challenge is a fun, educational experience for anyone involved in the wastewater industry. This event provides an opportunity to apply day-to-day skills through a series of hands-on activities and written quizzes.
Five committees – Laboratory, Operations & Maintenance, Residuals & Resource Recovery, Collection Systems, and Safety – create challenges in their respective fields. Teams consisting of four people from either the same facility or from several facilities compete against each other by following instructions for each challenge. Teams that have members from different disciplines in the industry have an advantage over those who do not. If you have a competitive edge, be strategic in prepping your team, or just come for the fun and comradery of the day!
To cap off the day, the Wastewater Challenge Committee hosts a reception, recognizing the winners of the day and provide an opportunity to catch up with your fellow peers.
Registration is open. Please register by June 30th. The IWEA Challenge is pending 5 Technical WW and 2 General WW, 7 general DW, and 7 PDHs.
The NIOA will pay all registration fees for a couple teams to participate! Contact any of your NIOA Officers for more information or check out IWEA's link.
Engineering Consultants & Contractors - please consider participating and recruiting some of your municipal clients to make this event successful!
