Greetings to the friends of the Northern Indiana Operator's Association!
September NIOA Meeting & Cookout. We are trying to get back into a normal schedule of meetings and training, and plan to meet for training and lunch at Chain o'Lakes State Park on Wednesday, Sept. 9. We tentatively plan to meet at the Glacier Ridge Shelter at 10:00 am to take a short walk to the park's wastewater treatment plant. We will return to eat lunch and sit for approximately 1 hour of training (C. Williams, Covid-19 Testing in the Sewer System, and Ammonia Removal in Activated Sludge). Everything will be held outdoors, and space is available to maintain social distancing, as necessary. We are limiting attendance to 30, so RSVP's are absolutely required to attend. To RSVP, contact Tim or John, no later than noon, Sept. 7 (yes, that is Labor Day). Remember, you must RSVP to attend.
IWEA Annual Conference. The IWEA Annual Conference has gone virtual. We know you are eager to begin viewing our technical and general sessions, and IWEA is excited to offer more than 40 presentations to our attendees. We are excited to announce IDEM has accepted our application and we have been approved for technical and general wastewater and drinking water credits. All presentations have been approved for PDHs. - Please note, all presentations will be pre-recorded, there are no live sessions and will be available until December 18th for viewing
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
- Deadline to register Friday, September 25, 2020
- CEU forms must be turned into Kylee Daily by December 1, 2020. Please note we are asking individuals who need wastewater, drinking water, or PDHs to turn in their forms by December 1st to ensure all forms are in before the end of the year.

Information from IDEM
- From Leigh Voss, Municipal NPDES Permits Section: IDEM has finalized the Annual Rolling Average spreadsheet created by a Compliance Branch workgroup (some may have trouble accessing this file through this link - contact Becky Ruark directly if you cannot retrieve it by this link). The annual rolling average is common for permitees with a Mercury reporting requirement under a SMV, but could be used for other parameters as well. The file consists of an instruction tab and a second tab with the spreadsheet itself. The permitee should include the document as an attachment to their NetDMR as outlined in the instructions. This should help the permitee to accurately calculate the Annual Rolling Average and help IDEM to see all the data in one place. If you have questions feel free to contact Becky Ruark.
- From Jason House, NPDES Compliance Branch Chief: IDEM is interested in gaining a better understanding of the challenges that the wastewater profession faces in the 21st Century. In order to gain a better understanding, IDEM has developed a survey, linked below. IDEM is asking that you, an important member of the wastewater profession, fill out the survey with your thoughts on the challenges that are faced by wastewater professionals in the 21st Century. From Jason House, NPDES Compliance Branch Chief: The Indiana Department of Environmental Management/Office of Water Quality/NPDES Compliance Branch has developed four guidance documents in regards to various NPDES permit requirements. Please take the time to review the documents and share with all applicable facility personnel. IDEM hopes the documents will aide in understanding some of your NPDES permitting requirements.
